Air Quality Assessments for Data Centres

Data Centres are becoming increasingly important in our modern society. A loss of power could result in loss of data and as such, Data Centres requires source of standby back up power generation. These usually take the form of large diesel powered (or increasingly HVO) standby back-up generators, which can release significant quantities of nitrous oxides and particular matter.

It is imperative that these Data Centres are designed to ensure that emissions from these generators do not have the potential to significantly impact air quality and health during regular testing or maintenance.

As such, air quality assessments for both planning and permitting are often required. Whilst the principals of the assessments are the same, assessments for planning can be more stringent in air quality management areas, or where the site borders a sensitive habitats.
